Sherin Guirgus Desert X
Project Overview
Inspired by a Bedouin anklet passed down through generations, Kholkhal Aliaa explores themes of memory, movement, and female agency. Though its exact history is unknown, the imagined journey of the object informs its presence, both intimate and symbolic. Characterized by its spiked form and intricate detailing, the anklet represents power and connection, traditionally marking union while tracing footsteps across the desert. Scaled to the landscape, the form is abstracted into a monumental circular structure, shifting from an object worn by the body to one that suggests a collective presence. Suspended between the walls of a narrow gorge, the piece functions as both bridge and shelter. Set within a landscape of stark contrasts, it transforms the terrain itself into an extension of the adorned body. Hiwire contributed to the fabrication and realization of this installation.
